Tip Of The Week: Choosing Your Wedding Colours

Having specific wedding colours can unify the event visually and create a feeling of elegance. But does choosing your colours seem daunting? Not to worry, this week we cover a few basics to help you get started :) xx


1. The Tone: The colour scheme of the wedding will set the tone of the wedding. Most people choose their favourite colours or they choose the flowers they like and go from there. Think what the following colours represent: 

White: Safety, purity, innocence and cleanliness.

Black: Power, elegance, formality, earth and stability. 

Blue: Trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Red: Love, passion, desire, energy, strength, power. 

Orange: Joy, sunshine, enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction.

Yellow: Joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.

Green: Growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. 

Purple: Power, nobility, luxury, and ambition.

2. Additional Factors: Have you already booked your venue or are perhaps set on a particular bridesmaid dress? Check if your ceremony or reception venues have bold or strong colours and ensure that they won't contrast too much. Choose colours that will compliment your setting. Alternatively think about how they could be covered for the evening e.g. carpeting, draping and decor. If you have chosen the bridesmaids dresses, do they fit into the tone of your wedding? Do they come in different colours? If you prefer a certain flower - does it come in the colour you are after? 


3. The Season: Think about the season you will be getting married in. Perhaps you love this season and want to embrace the colours and smells that this season represents. Summer and spring tend to represent brighter colours while autumn and winter tend to be much darker. 


4. Monochromatic: Perhaps you have one favourite colour that you can use all across your wedding in various shades. If done correctly, this is beautiful and tasteful :) 


5. Complementary Shades: If as above, you have one colour you like and can't come up with a second one, think about the complimentary shades. Check out this colour wheel and consider a few options with your partner. 


6. Colour Palette Generator: I love this tool! Upload your favourite photo and generate and instant colour palette! 

Pitfalls: 


1. Too much black : I totally disagree with this one. To me (personal opinion here!) black is so elegant and I loved Kim Kardashian's take on the black and white wedding. While I do agree that this is not for everyone at the same time don't shy away from black because it is not the conventional colour. 


2. Pastel Galore: Yes, pastel colours are commonly associated with weddings but that does not mean your wedding should be overdone in pastels. Perhaps you only want certain aspects in pastel and others in bold. 


3. The Rainbow: There is such thing as too much colour. While we suggest sticking to 2-3 colours maximum, please do not go overboard and have a rainbow party!

Father's Day!

Father's Day is this Sunday (tomorrow!!! yikes) so we are sharing a few ideas to make your dad feel special :) 


1. Packaging 

a. Bow Tie Wraps, b. Ties and Suspenders , c. Paper Ties 

DIY Project- Bow tie and Necktie Boxes :) 

Supplies you’ll need:

gift box template + bow tie / necktie template
a printer
cardstock for the box and tie(s)*
scissors
a ruler
a pen or pencil
glue dots
double-sided tape
1/4 inch circle hole punch (for bow tie box)
a scoring tool (optional)
a cutting mat (optional)

Print the box template onto lightweight cardstock, cut out along the solid lines, and assemble according to the directions found in the template file. Place your gift in the box, and use double-sided tape or glue dots to securely close the flap. Print bow tie/necktie templates, cut out, and trace onto your choice of patterned or solid colored paper. Cut out the tie(s) and attach to the box flap using double stick tape or glue dots. If making the bow tie box, punch out three 1/4 inch “buttons” using a hole punch, and attach to the front of the box using glue dots (small Zots are the perfect size).

Alternative directions: Assemble the box and attach the tie to the top flap first, and add your gift last.

These boxes will hold a variety of small Father’s Day gifts, including watches, fishing lure, small food treats, gift cards, and tech gadgets like iPod Nanos or USB thumb drives.
