Tip Of The Week - Gift Guide

In life you must give in order to receive. Since there are countless events that will involve giving gifts, we must also learn to be thoughtful about it. While circling the Myer store may be great, it is also a time waster! The best way to figure out what to give is to think about the person. Some people believe that there are 5 different personalities when it comes to gifting and they are;

  1. Verbal giver- the friend that always encourages you with their positive and affirmative words. They will write emails, leave notes and always say the right thing.
  2. Time giver - this is the friend who takes time to talk to you, listen and do things. They may or may not be stingy with their gifts but they will always find time for you.
  3. Gift giver - ah the friend who always comes over with flowers, a bottle of wine or home made cookies. Price is not important to these people, they enjoy giving.
  4. Touch giver- the friend who will give you a pat on the back or a hug. It is in their nature to give via touch and make you feel special.
  5. Service giver- these friends are the first to volunteer, talk you through an interview process or fix that leak that has been bothering you. They are the first you will think of when you need something done.
So what gifts should we give to our friends? Here are a few tips..
  1. Verbal - a book, affirmations, motivational CD's, music, moving DVD's etc. ALWAYS ensure that you include a card to accompany the gift.
  2. Time - gifts that involved your time and effort like gift baskets, flower arrangements, nappy cakes for baby showers and pampering gifts like massage vouchers, hair or make up.
  3. Gifts - try to surprise them with a box within a box, quirky and different gifts, framed images of someone special (like you and them). They will appreciate that you have taken the time and effort to think about them receiving a gift.
  4. Touch - these friends will love you if you get them massage vouchers, hair or make up sessions, chiropractor treatments etc. Clever gifts may also include silk shirts, thick cushions, shaving cream, bubble bath or slippers. If you can feel it, they will love it!
  5. Service - they will appreciate tools, how to books and certificates for all those thing they may not have had time to do like a handyman for a day or shoes for their horse.
