Hairspiration: The Pony Tail

TOOLS: curling iron (we used a 1″ barrel), clear ponytail holder or one that matches your hair color, bobby pins (we prefer largebobby pins for this because they hold a lot of hair and will stay more secure!), comb, hair spray.
  1. Start by adding some curl to your hair for texture.
  2. Create a low ponytail. We made a line from ear to ear and used the hair on bottom for this. Then divide the top into 3 even sections.
  3. Tease the middle section for added volume and texture.
  4. Then twist the middle section and pin it to the low ponytail using a large bobby pin for security.
  5. Tease the side section to add more texture.
  6. Twist it back and pin it to the low ponytail using a large bobby pin.
  7. Repeat the teasing on the other side and pin it to the low ponytail using a large bobby pin.
Pull a few pieces out around your face to soften the look. Last, mist the whole thing with a medium holding hairspray.

Tip Of The Week: Pinterest

So unless you have been hiding under a rock, you couldn't have missed the force that is Pinterest. Here is a precise definition ;

To say the least we are victims of Pinterest but a happy ones at that!!! Pinterest can be quite useful for businesses. Here are a few tips to help you get started;

1. Promote your business by pinning your products. You can also create an e-commerce board and put the value of the item on there so that customers can be sent directly to your site.

2. Find your consumers - type in http://pinterest.com/source/yoursite.com and you will find exactly who has been pinning from your site! This way you can comment or follow your consumers

3. SEO- when someone pins from your site it actually helps with your SEO!

4. Create useful boards e.g. Product Of The Week, hold a contest, showcase an event, previous projects etc. Showcase your work and/or offer something to those browsing.

With all that in mind, please also do read Pinterest's rules of conduct and know that the site is not there for your self promotion rather for sharing ideas and information.

Interested? Take a look & follow us on Pinterest :)

Tip Of The Week: Event Marketing Ideas

Here are a few event marketing ideas to get you thinking!

1. Campaigns: A good campaign has to have a good idea. Take a look a these Super Bowl ad's and the creativity involved. Ad slots in the pre-game show go from $100K to a cool $1M for 30 seconds therefore they have to step it up!

2. Event Websites: This is a great way to control and inform your guests about the event. Creative wedding websites for example will include the guestbook, registry, photos, RSVP, information about the couple and so much more. Think about all the major events and the point of difference that they offer with their websites.

3. Insider Information: People want to be the first to know things. Keeping them in the loop via VIP newsletters, emails, Facebook groups and other social media forms will make them feel like an insider and surely enough they will be coming to the event.

4. Video: You Tube is  a great forum for capturing peoples attention and conveying a message. Raw Kitchen and Espresso recently opened offered a free coffee on their opening day and created an amazing viral video that spread across Facebook. Alternatively if you can obtain video testimonials, this is another great way to sell yourself and create content for your marketing initiative.

5. Tweet: Create your own hash tag e.g. #WOACorprateParty and use your account to update your followers, spread the word and draw more people to the event. Use the hash tag on all of your marketing materials & throughout your social media campaigns. Here are the top 100 event Twitter accounts to get you thinking!

Australian Women Online and Social Media

MUM PR, Three Lil Princesses and Brand Meets Blog surveyed 708 Australian women on their media habits and use of social media. The results were amazing and confirmed how vital social media really is. What we found quite interesting is that the survey also confirmed that we are quickly catching up to the USA. Speaking for the events industry, social media is crucial and game changing. More importantly the amount of business that is generated solely through social media is astounding. We recently shared our tips on how you can use social media at your next event and will continue to keep you informed about this ever evolving and growing topic. We hope you find this information valuable and please feel free to comment and share!

Tip Of The Week: Event Budgeting

The event budget is an essential part of event management and fundamentally important to determine the desired outcome, ensure a successful event, profit, lose or to break even. The best way to achieve this is to identify, compare and total all the expenditures and expected revenues.

The event budget exercises financial control therefore it should be well structured in order to monitor the costs over time, identify what is affordable within that budget and most of all keep it under control so that you do not go over budget.

Things to consider (for an average event):

Expenditures
Venue
Music/Speakers/ Performers
Transport
Catering
Insurance
Decor
Advertising/ Promotions/ PR
Accommodation
Staff

Equipment Hire

Revenue
Ticket Sales

Sponsors
Public Funds
Kick backs
Web marketing (e.g. sponsors on the site)
Merchandising Sales
Raffles

The preparation of the event budget is one of the earliest tasks undertaken in the event management process. In fact, there could be several drafts with the proposed costs vs actual costs. That way the event manager can make sound decisions on the expenditures. It is expected that there will be several adjustments and refinements during the event cycle.

Here are a few tips & tricks to help you avoid financial issues:

~ Budget- this is vital for any event and should not be avoided (regardless of the size)
~ Be realistic about expenditures

and the income

~ Have a plan B (in case certain revenues fall through e.g. sponsorship )

~ Go big or go home - planning 2 smaller events vs one large event could be more costly

~ Trust your suppliers - event managers use experienced suppliers with whom they work with on a regular basis and therefore receive better rates

~ Use online resources for marketing vs printed

~ Plan a revenue strategy ahead of time & lock in sponsors early

~ Search for government funds

~ Negotiate!

Corporate Event Management

Planning a corporate event, office or holiday party is no easy task. It means taking on the immense responsibility of hosting and presenting the corporation to their clients or customers, vendors, various brands and the general public. Every detail, small or large, will reflect and represent the diligence of the corporation while creating first impressions (and we all know how important those are).

As the GFC deepens, it is important for corporations to keep their existing clients and grow from a positive image. Corporations benefit immensely from experienced event planners who offer smooth, diligent events and understand the importance of those events. An event management company will cater to all of the corporations needs, from securing the venue, to hiring entertainment, creating the desired atmosphere, coordinating guest lists, creating invites, designing menus, providing staffing solutions, and ultimately producing the entire event.

While there are certain corporations who believe they can take on the task themselves they risk wasting an opportunity to connect with their clients, vendors and the public and ultimately can create a negative image of the corporation.  Anne Thornley-Brown, President, Executive Oasis International, advised that some of the wrong moves that derail a corporate event are the wrong location, the wrong season, wrong timeframe and the wrong budget.

An event management company will handle the all the details of the event as they have experience and multidimensional skills (aka Jack of all trades), technical knowledge, time management and financial skills. They poses interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. Which really means they have seen it and done it all so nothing will take them by surprise! Hiring and event management company means that your corporation will have invaluable support and benefit greatly from a flawless event.
