Tip Of The Week: Writing Your Own Vows

We love the idea of writing your own vows but sometimes it can be hard to decide where to start and how to do it right. Here are a few tips to get you started;

1. Talk to your celebrant : First ensure that it is ok with them that you write your own vows and ask for their advice.

2. The strategy: Talk to your partner and decide if you will write your vows together or apart. Will you write them apart but share them before the ceremony with each other or will it all be revealed during the nuptials??

3. Privacy: Check with each other about certain moments that may be private and that you do not wish to be revealed in front of your nearest and dearest. While they are there for you, there might be a few situations or topics off the cards (or vows! ).

4. Define Yourself: Define what you mean to each other and what marriage means to the both of you. This will definitely help you with what you want to say to your loved one.

5. Write Away: Start writing your vows and repeat them every few days, re read them and revise them. Nothing is set in stone until the big day and just keep working on them until you are happy with the finished product. If you find yourself using one word a thousand times turn to a thesaurus - it is ok! If you are still unsure about your vows find a close family member or a friend that you feel comfortable with and read it to them so that they can give you advice on how it comes across.

6. Be Romantic!
