Style Icon - Elizabeth Taylor
Hollywood legend, goddess and style icon Elizabeth Taylor passed away yesterday (March 23) at the age of 79. She captivated the world with her violet-blue eyes, diamonds, intensity and off-screen love life. The curvaceous style icon inspired much of our modern culture. She was one of the first perfume moguls and an advocate for victims of AIDS.
Her love for style spanned decades and she was an impressive collector of jewels. Elizabeth owned the 33.9 carat Krupp diamond and a 69.42 carat pear shaped diamond, both gifts from her ex-husband Richard Burton.
Her favourite couturier was Marc Bohan of Christian Dior who she remained loyal to for four decades. Over the years she purchased a hundred separate couture outfits from Dior. Whenever she bought anything she always expected an accompanying gift.
Her countless marriages are almost inspirational, she fought all her life for love. Her husband (twice over) Richard Burton wrote in the 1965 Vogue article, “She is famine, fire, destruction, and plague, she is the Dark Lady of the Sonnets, the only true begetter… Her breasts were apocalyptic, they would topple empires down before they withered. Indeed, her body was a miracle of construction and the work of an engineer of genius… It was true art…”.
