Trend Alert: Sparkling Sapphire Rings

Isn't this the most perfect "something blue" that a girl could own? Love it! Sapphire engagement/wedding bands are making a serious comeback. I am not sure if Kate Middleton kicked off the phenomenon however it is seriously catching on. Here are some interesting facts that make sapphires even more beautiful ;
  • Sapphire is most popular in blue but also appears in different colors such as purple and pink
  • Sapphire is remarkably hard, making it a fine choice for an engagement ring stone (the harder the stone, the less likely it will show scratches and degrade over time)
  • The second largest sapphire gemstone, the Logan Sapphire, weighs 423 carats (84.6 g)
  • Sapphire is known as the birthstone for September however it is also for people born between April 21st and May 20th (Taurus - omg this is me and I never knew it!).
  • It is common that sapphire be given for 45 year wedding anniversaries
  • The Romans called it “the queen of gems” because it embodied the colors of all the other gems. They revered opal as a symbol of hope and purity and regarded it as second only to the prized emerald.
  • Sapphire represents feelings of sympathy, harmony, friendship and loyalty. It also represents sincerity and faithfulness.
